Private and Semi-Private Instruction

Colchester Equines offers dressage, hunter/jumper, general english, and western lessons. We take pride in our personal attention to fit your needs. If you don’t see something listed here that fits your needs, please ask!

Expect to spend 1.5 hours at the barn for a one hour lesson. This includes time for basic instruction, tacking, and cleanup.

Private Lessons

  • 1 hour - $55
  • 45 min. - $45
  • ½ hour - $30
  • 45 min (at your facility) - $65

Semi Private Lesson

  • (Two riders for 1 hour) - $45/rider


Beginner Private Lesson $70

This lesson is for the first time rider (this is a one time charge). The lesson is an hour and a half long, consisting of

one half-hour spent learning basic safety, and tacking and grooming skills, and about an hour spent riding.

15-minute Pony Ride - $16/rider


Trail Rides

We offer trail rides at our facility and at the local Lake Anna State Park for riders of all experience levels. Rides at our facility are on a well-shaded, wooded trail and can be either one hour or one and a half. State Park trail rides are typically two hours or longer, and are also on a wooded, well-shaded trail.

Plan on wearing at least close-toed shoes for your protection. Helmets are provided for you. Young children are welcome, bring the whole family!

Riding Camps

Our Camp program offers all riders a chance to develop riding skills, learn about, and care for horses. Encouraging new riders with the time and skills used to be involved with horses on a daily basis.

Each morning in camp, each rider will receive an hour and a half instructional riding lesson. Following the instructional training, in the afternoon they will receive an addition hour and a half riding time consisting of games on horseback and trail rides. During the day each rider will learn about basic care, stall cleaning, tack care and other skills dependent on rider level.

One day and week long camps are available. Camps are being offered to any age and riding level.

  • $370.00 per week or $90.00/day
